Who We Are

Our Mission

Dedicated to promoting collaborative relationships between Metropolitan State College of Denver and its surrounding community, the Center for Urban Connections is a resource both for community partners and for Metro State students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The center is committed to strengthening partnerships with neighbor organizations, enhancing and expanding community-based learning and research opportunities, developing student leaders, and supporting college-wide service and outreach to advance the educational mission of the College and the common good. Inside or outside of class, the center seeks to deepen understanding of urban issues through meaningful involvement in urban solutions.

Community engagement includes

- Direct involvement

- Community capacity development

- Formal political activities

- Grassroots political activity

- Community building

- Advocacy through community education

- Socially responsible daily behavior

Some examples

- Working to set up clinics and trainings for community members on public health concerns

- Developing experiential workshops for student groups to increase multicultural understanding

- Volunteering at a shelter

- Lobbying at the capitol
